The BackCountry Blog has posted an update from Jacob van der Merwe a.k.a. The Crazy Kayaker.
You probably recall that Jacob has set out to kayak the entire length of the Mississippi River, starting in Minneapolis, MN and paddling South until he reaches New Oreleans. He’s been underway for several weeks now and you can follow his progress with this online map and read about his adventures in his blog. He’s making great progress at 25 miles per day and is already well on his way to Missouri.
Jacob has been passing through my old stomping grounds on the Upper Mississippi Valley area, and he remarks at how surprised he is by the amount of wilderness that is in the area. The river bluffs along the Mississippi in that area are beautiful and can be quite wild in spots. It’s especially amazing to see in the Fall when the leaves begin to change colors.
