EverestNews.com is reporting that the team from Thailand attempting a Fall summit, has turned back at 8500m, and is now on their way back to Kathmandu.
The team was climbing in celebration of the 80th birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, a much beloved figure in Thailand. They were climbing via the South Col route, and there is very little information as to why the team turned back.
Itβs a bit odd that we havenβt heard more about this climb. Fall summit attempts are a bit on the rare side, and they were the only team on the mountain for the season. I remember hearing about the expedition when it was announced back in September, but there have been few, if any updates since that time. Hopefully weβll get a post climb dispatch in the near future to update us on how the climb went, and why they decided to turn back with the summit in sight.
