The first Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge was such a success, that they’ve decided to do it again. The second edition of the race is scheduled for December 12th through the 17th and looks to cap an amazingly full, and tough, adventure racing schedule this year.
This stage based adventure race burst on the scene late in 2007 and left a lasting impression on everyone who was involved in the event. The teams of four, from all over the planet, battled across the water, through the sand, and up and down mountains, before Eurosport Sport NZ edged out Team Nike to claim first place. By most accounts it was a great race, and I know that a number of the top teams have already expressed an interest in returning to the event.
The official website notes that the format of the race will remain the same, that is to say a stage race with each day focusing on a different discipline. I’m guessing they’ll dump the “camel running” events considering that it was mostly a disaster for them last year, but aside from that, I’m guessing they’ll just tweak the course and order of events some. They promise more updates soon, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they have in store for us, but it looks like the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge is shaping up to become one of the great annual events.
