Gadget site Gizmodo had an article today on an interesting new tool for backcountry rescue. The concept design is of a backpack that converts into an inflatable sled that can be used to pull someone to safety.
The device is known has the Firun, and itβs easy to see how this could become standard issue for future mountain rescue teams. At this point, itβs just a design, but itβs very well done and holds a lot of promise. Coming to an REI store near you in time for Winter 2009 no doubt.
