Our virtual trip through Nepal and Tibet with Jon Miller and Scott Jacobs continues with the latest episode of The Rest of Everest now available directly from the website or for download in iTunes.
When last we left off, Jon and Scott had arrived in Lhasa at long last, and we have begun to get our first glimpses of Tibet and how different it is from Nepal. In this episode, we get some amazing shots of the Jokhang, the most sacred temple in all of Tibet, whose origins date back to the 7th Century. From their hotel room, it’s just a quick walk across the street to this amazing place. As you watch, you’ll see a large number of Buddhist who have made their way to the temple to walk their Koras around the Jokhang, which they always do in a clockwise fashion.
Both Jon and Scott talk about how spiritual the place is and how calm and peaceful they felt while in Tibet and close to the temple. They mention that while they’re not personally very religious, you can’t help but feel the energy and spirituality of the place they are visiting.
This is a great episode to kick off our exploration of Tibet. The guys didn’t actually travel very far at all in this episode, in fact they just walked across the street, and yet we still get to see some really interesting and unique cultural experiences. This is the same thing that someone going to Everest would be seeing and doing while they are en route, and it’s part of the whole experience that is climbing the mountain.
