Just in time for the start of the Spring climbing season, we’ve got a new episode of The Rest of Everest to entice those of us sitting at home and wishing we were in the Himalaya.
This weeks episode is entitled “Finally, Heading Towards Everest”, as Jon Miller and his friend Scott Jacobs turn their way at last to their goal. The video this week resumes where we left off last week, with the guys on the road to Everest. Along the way they stop in the town of Gyangtse, and we get more of a sense of the local culture and traditions, including the story of an old woman who would stick out her tongue to prove that she wasn’t a demon!
This episode is once again much like a typical travelogue, with Jon and Scott continuing to introduce us to more of the culture of Tibet, including some delicious looking Tibetan noodles that they whole heartedly endorse. Watching these episodes will inspire you to travel to Tibet as well, and it’s a shame that at the moment, that’s not possible. When viewing these current episodes, remember that they were shot nearly one year ago, when Tibet was open to visitors and the North Side of Everest had climbers on it. A very different state of affairs from today. This is as close to the region as you can get right now.
As always, you can find the Rest of Everest video podcasts in iTunes or access them directly from the website.
