A few weeks back, National Geographic Adventure Magazine announced their Adventurers of the Year, with some great, very deserving recipients taking home the awards. At the time, they also released their favorite gear and even an adventure quiz on the year that has just passed.
Today, the page has been updated once again, this time with video of each of the winners, allowing you to see them in motion and hear them talk about their adventures in their own words.
In all, their are 12 videos, and each of them is, as you would expect from National Geographic, quite well done. I’d especially recommend the video of Pemba Gyalje Sherpa, winner of the “Heroism” award for his efforts on K2. The video images are quite stunning, and listening to Pemba talk about the situation is very compelling. He’s certainly very deserving of the award.
The videos help to put a voice and face to the big adventures we’ve been reading about for the past year. Check them out!

I’m currently working through the “Adventurers of the Year” section of my personal Adventure magazine. I’d never heard of Gauntlet and Hooper before, but I’m very impressed with their pluck … and their luck. To do what they did is nothing short of amazing. I hope that when I grow up, I have as much courage.
They had quite an adventure, that’s for sure. It’ll be interesting to see what they do for an encore. How do you go back to “normal” life after something like that?
You don’t go back to “normal life.” You leverage that experience to help you get other similar experiences for the rest of your life.
So true. Their definition of a normal life is very different from most of us.
