Next Monday, October 12th, the 2010 Summit For Someone program will officially kick off, allowing 150 participants the opportunity to climb some iconic peaks, or build new skills, while raising funds for the Big City Mountaineers, an organization that works directly with at risk kids.
For those unfamiliar with Summit For Someone, here’s how it works. You sign up for one of their mountaineering trips, see the full list here, and pay the cost of the trip, either out of your own pocked or by doing fund raising. Once you’re officially on board, you’ll also get a gift card to stock up on some new equipment courtesy of MountainGear.com. From there, it is up to you to train and prepare for your chosen climb, and before you know it, you’ll be off on your very own adventure in the mountains. Best of all, you’ll not only have the satisfaction of doing a great climb, you’ll know that the money you’ve raised will go directly towards helping the kids at Big City Mountaineers.
Some of the climbs that you can choose from include Denali, Rainier, Mt. Hood, Longs Peak, and Whitney. This year, the team has added a couple of new destinations and options as well, such as Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, and a beginners mountaineering course in Rocky Mountain National Park that will help you build skills that will come in hand on future expeditions to the mountains. To read about these new options, check out the press release for the 2010 program by clicking here.
It should also be noted that Backpacker Magazine is another important sponsor of the Summit For Someone program and works closely in conjunction with Big City Mountaineers on this very cool and important project. If you’re looking for a great trip to the mountains, and want to have a positive impact, that sign-up for Summit For Someone starting next week.

Thanks, Kraig! How about an Adventure Blog ascent of Mount Whitney in 2010?
Happy to help Brendan! 🙂
And I"m starting to plan my 2010 adventures now. Who knows where I'll end up! 🙂
Thanks for the reminder Kraig.
Been meaning to add them into my 'Giving Back' links…
Yes, 2010 is soon around the corner, so been painting and planning too. I am envisioning some places very far away…
Let me know if you need any little cobbles to find new homes during your adventures too. 🙂

Oooo! I'm intrigued DSD! Where you headed that is "very far away"?
