The adventure racing news has come at a steady pace the past few weeks, and that bodes well for 2011, which is shaping up to be a great year for the sport. AR continues to rise in popularity and draw in new fans, and teams now have even more options for races to competing in next year.
Take for example the Gold Rush 4 Day Adventure Race, which is set to go down in the Stanislaus National Forest, located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Registration is now open for the even, which will take place from September 8-11, 2011. Entry fee for the event is $2245 for a four man team, with the first ten teams to sign-up receiving a $245 discount.
Details are still a bit sketchy on what the race will entail, but organizers are promising a big adventure for all who take part. You can bet that they’ll offer the usual disciplines of trekking, mountain biking, and paddling, with a healthy dose of navigation mixed in as well. What other surprises they have in store for the racers will be revealed in the months ahead, but you can bet they have a few tricks up their sleeve.
The Gold Rush is actually being billed as a 3.5 day, expedition length race, which sounds like a great opportunity for teams to cut their teeth on a longer race without jumping into a 7-10 day event. This sounds like a nice stepping stone for the bigger races, and fills a niche that should appeal to a lot of racers. The selection of the location, in Northern California, should be spectacular as well.
There you have it adventure racers. Another excellent option for 2011.
