Mission Everest: Trekking To EBC

Over the weekend I was sent a link to this video by Hank Leukart, one of the filmmakers behind this great short film. The video, which is a little more than 54 minutes in length, follows Hank and his brother Brian, who collaborated on the video as well, as they make the trek to Everest Base Camp, located at 17,600 feet in Nepal.

The two brothers decided to undertake the journey following the death of their father, and although they are use to long distance trekking and hiking, the trip turns out to be everything they had hoped for and more.

Watching the video brings back a lot of memories for me, as I was preparing to make this very trek last year at this time. Watching the familiar scenes from the trail were fantastic, and brought back a wave of nostalgia. The hike to EBC is a good one, even if the altitude can be challenging for the unprepared. If you’ve ever thought about making the trek yourself, you’ll definitely want to watch the video. It’ll give you a great sense of what a hike in the High Himalaya is all about.

Also, be sure to check out Hank’s essays about the trip over at his site Without Baggage. Excellent work Hank!

  1. Ascending the heights and being a part of the Himalayan landscape is an experience beyond comparison. Above all trekking in the Himalaya is often a mix of adventure, pleasure and self realization.

  2. I really enjoyed watching this- it gave me a great perspective of what it's like to trek to EBC. You've both inspired me to put it on my must do list.
