Not a whole lot to report from the Himalaya today. Most of the climbers are either still in Kathmandu and waiting for a flight out, or are on the trail to their respective peaks. The trek to Base Camp, whether it is on Everest, Annapurna, or elsewhere, is a spectacular one, as the mountains are simply beautiful to behold. But the path is also well worn and well known for many. That hasn’t stopped Alan Arnette from continuing to post updates on his trek to EBC however, and with the traditional rest day in Namche upon him, Alan took the opportunity to update us on his walk so far.
If you’ve been to the Khumbu Valley, Alan’s post will, without a doubt, inspire memories of the region. He talks about getting off the plane in Lukla, handing off the heavy luggage to the porters, and hitting the trail. His mentioning of yaks on the path and the long, slow climb up to Namche Bazaar, all elicit very good thoughts for me. It’s an excellent read, with some great insights into the trek to Base Camp for sure.
