This past season on Everest a team of highly skilled and trained Sherpas conducted a high altitude rescue of two other climbers – Pakistani Abdul Jabbar Bhatti and guide Sange Sherpa – after finding them near death on the upper slopes of the mountain. The team, at great risk to themselves, made it their mission to get the two mountaineers down safely. The video below shares images and footage from that rescue effort and provides more details to the story. This accompanying article from Nat Geo, delves further into what happened as well. Thankfully, Bhatti and Sange survived the ordeal, narrowly avoiding becoming another statistic on the world’s highest peak.
