Video: The Live Feed of SpaceX’s Starman Driving a Tesla Roadster Through Space

All week long we’ve been sharing videos from SpaceX’s successful test of its Falcon Heavy Rocket, but the fun isn’t over just yet. Not everyone realizes it, but the payload aboard that rocket was Elon Musk’s very own original Tesla Roadster, which has a mannequin named “Starman” sitting in the driver’s seat. Starman is wearing a SpaceX spacesuit on his voyage and is testing this new suit prior to actual humans wearing it on future missions. The Roadster is also carrying a copy of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series and has “Don’t Panic” on its screen, which is a reference to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

In the video below you can watch a live stream of Starman as he heads out into the great beyond. Originally the Tesla vehicle was suppose to be put into orbit around Mars, but the rocket overshot its telemetry and it now looks destined to end up in the Astroid Belt instead. Either way, its still a pretty cool feat.

  1. Also feels like a reference to the opening scenes in the movie Heavy Metal where a guy flies a sports car to earth.
