Listen up adventurers. If you’re looking for a real challenge, not to mention your 15 minutes of fame, than we just might have an opportunity for you. The Outdoor Channel is seeking individuals to join its new reality competition television show called The Brigade: Race to the Hudson, in which the winners will take home a cool $1 million.

The show will follow a group of adventurers who will set off from Portland, Oregon and travel by canoe to York Factory, which is located on the Hudson Bay in Canada. They’ll work together to cover more than 2600 miles (4184 km), crossing five river systems and two mountain ranges while following the original fur trading route that was established back in the 1800s. They will have to navigate using a map and compass and can only travel by canoe or on foot, portaging around some areas in order to continue traveling east. Along the way, they’ll face remote wilderness, rapids ranging as high as Class V and VI, and plenty of challenges both internal and external. Those who actually complete the journey will split the $1 million prize.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in taking part in The Outdoor Channel is now accepting applications for those who would like to be on the show. Be warned however, there is a serious time commitment involved. The “Race to the Hudson” will begin on July 1 and wrap up sometime around the end of September.

  1. Read the book Canoeing With the Cree by Eric Severeid to get an understanding of how challenging it was to canoe from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay.
