Video: How Digital Currency is Transforming East Africa

Last week we shared the first of three videos from BioLite, an innovative gear company that is focused on improving the lives of people around the globe. In that clip we saw the impact of solar power on those living in East Africa. Today, we have the second video from the series, this time providing viewers with a glimpse of how mobile phones and digital currency are changing the lives of people in the same area. In a place where banks are few and far between, the ability to store funds and pay for goods and services from your phone is a real game changer. And of course, those phones need to stay charged to be functional.

  1. I am going to look into this for our return to Papua New Guinea where there is such a need. Have you tried to travel out of the country with any of this gear?

  2. Hi Julie!
I haven’t used their larger stove, but I do have the smaller camp stove that has been out for a number of years, and it works great. I’ve also played with the BioLite Solar Home 620 Kit and its really well put together too. Dead simple, efficient, and effective. In fact, the kit was created specifically for use in Kenya, and only became a consumer product later. Both are great for creating energy for small devices.
