Gear Closet: ENO Lounger DL Camp Chair Review

ENO Lounger DL Camp Chair

There once was a time when bringing a chair to the campsite seemed like an extravagant luxury. After all, those chairs were usually bulky, heavy, and not especially comfortable to sit in for extended periods of time. But how times have changed, as now days you can find some truly great camp chairs that are actually marvels of modern engineering.

And while they are still a luxury item that is mostly confined to the car camping set, the options have become surprisingly great. Take for example the Lounger DL chair from Eagles Nest Outfitters(AKA ENO), which is so comfortable that you’ll want to use it even when you’re not in the backcountry.

At first glance it would be easy to think that the Lounger DL is just another camp chair with very little to help it stand out from the crowd. But look a little closer and you’ll see that it has quite a few features and design elements that make it very different from the crowded field of competitors. For instance, instead of using a basic canvas type material for its fabrics, it uses a 210D ripstop Nylon instead.

This makes sense considering ENO’s use of the same materials in it fantastic hammocks, but it has some nice performance features that allow it to stand out too. Most notably it weighs less without sacrificing durability and it is cooler as well. Canvas doesn’t breathe well and can be a bit on the abrasive side, but this fabrics feel great against the skin and allow someone sitting in the chair to stay cool and dry at the same time.

Another impressive feature that the Lounger DL brings to the table is its adjustable leg height. Users can select between leg heights of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and 3 inches (7.62 cm), which allows it to maintain better stability on a variety of different types of terrain. It also gives campers the option of sitting lower to the ground if they like, or sitting up higher depending on the environment. If you’re using the chair at an outdoor music festival you may want to sit up higher to see more of the show. Around the campfire, you can drop the legs lower while you roast marshmallows or make s’mores too.

Other nice features include a built-in pillow in the headrest and an integrate cup holder too. The Lounger DL even comes with two storage pockets that are great for stashing away small items, such as a smartphone, book, or other things you want to keep close at hand. ENO also ships the chair with a handy sling-style carrying case that is easy to get the Lounger in and out of and makes it easy to take with you on your outings.

Made from anodized aluminum, the Lounger DL is both relatively lightweight and durable. It tips the scales at 4.6 pounds (2.1 kg), which rules it out for backpacking excursions but is perfect for car camping, use in the backyard, at outdoor concerts, or anywhere else you want to take it. The legs and frame of the chair are incredibly sturdy and can take a great deal of punishment, while still coming out unscathed. Which helps to provide piece of mind when carrying it around. In fact, I’d say that its rugged construction is one of the reasons this chair stands out from the crowd as well.

Of course, all of these features and design elements are for naught if the chair simply isn’t comfortable. That isn’t the case here, as the Lounger DL is definitely more than the sum of its parts. Yes, all of the things that ENO has integrated into this product are outstanding, but when they all come together to work as well as they do, it makes for a super-comfy option for lounging around in the outdoors. You may even find that you have to buy two, because you’ll only end up arguing about who gets to use the Lounger DL anyway.

Speaking of which, when it comes to buying a camp chair I’ve generally found there are two very different types to choose from. You can find chairs that cost less than $50 that are adequate for the job, but are nothing special in terms of comfort, durability, and design. Or, you’ll have to pay a little more to get something that is much better and more worthwhile. Priced at $124.95 the Lounger DL definitely falls into the latter category. That price will probably give some reason to pause, and rightfully so.

That’s a lot to invest in a camp chair. But those who appreciate the high quality construction found in this product and are looking for a chair to last them a lifetime will discover that the Lounger is well worth the month. It is simply better built, better engineered, and an all-around better product than nearly every other camp chairs on the market. The bottom line is, if you can afford the price, this is the chair you want for your next camp outing.
