Video: How to Sleep Warm While Camping in Cold Weather

Camping in Cold Weather: One of the biggest excuses that people use for why they don’t like to go camping or backpacking is that they can’t stay warm while sleeping in a tent at night. Admittedly, that can be a challenge depending on the conditions and the gear that you bring along.

But this video shares some good tips on how to use your sleeping bag and sleeping pad in conjunction with one another to stay warm on a cool—or even cold—weather outing. As it turns out, it is possible to stay toasty warm, even on a winter camping trip. Here’s what you need to know before you go.

  1. All excellent advice for stating warm. I just wish the sleeping pad manufacturers used a standard to arrive at the R factor values. The vast majority of the posted R values on sleeping pads are misleading and overstated.

    • They’re actually trying to work towards that and get it more standardized. Some are more in favor of that move more than others unfortunately.

  2. That’s great news.

Thank you for the update. I guess my next thought is, how do we differentiate between those manufacturers that participate in the standardization process and those that do not ?
