Climbing Everest and K2 with Carla Perez
On this week’s episode of The Adventure Podcast we’re thrilled to welcome alpinist Carla Perez. Last year, Carla climbed both Everest and K2, becoming the first woman to summit both peaks in the same year. She has also climbed both of those mountains without the use of bottled oxygen, something that is also extremely rare.
In our interview, she talks about what it is like to take on the two tallest mountains on the planet, how she fell in love with climbing, why she turned down a lucrative career in a completely different industry in order to pursue her passions, and so much more. While on K2, she and her friend Adrian Ballinger also filmed a stunning documentary about their expedition, which we discuss at length too. You can watch that film in its entirety here.
Prior to our interview with Carla, my co-host Dave Adlard and I get into the latest Adventure News, which includes updates from the spring climbing season on Everest. We also discuss a paraplegic ocean rower who is on her way from California to Hawaii, while also taking a look at the historic SpaceX/NASA launch from last week. Later, we close out the show with our weekly “Gear Picks.” This week, Dave offers a review of the Ursack Major, while I share some thoughts on the first urban/travel pack from Deuter.
If you want to listen to our interview with Carla, you’ll find the entire episode is available to stream in the embedded audio player below. Better yet, you can download and subscribe to the show via your favorite mobile device on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, and Spotify. Comments, questions, feedback, and other thoughts can be sent to us on Facebook , Twitter, or good old-fashioned email. Thanks for giving us a listen. We hope you enjoy what you hear.
