This two-minute clip is the trailer for a longer documentary and after watching it, I’m already looking forward to the full film. It introduces us to the Athlete Refugee Team, a group of runners from places like South Sudan, Somalia, and Morocco who have come together in Kenya to form an Olympic team. Unlike most other athletes that go to the Olympics, these runners have been displaced due to government oppression, societal upheaval, natural disasters, and other factors. But at the end of the day, like all other athletes, all they want to do is compete. Sadly, the 2020 Tokyo Games have been postponed due to the coronavirus, but hopefully these men and women will get their chance next year. Now, bring on the full film.
