Survivorman Les Stroud Returns with New Show!

It seems like just yesterday that the online outdoor community was divided into camps over who was the better wilderness specialist, Bear Grylls or Les Stroud. The two men went head to head with Grylls’ Man vs. Wild taking on Stroud’s Survivorman. For those of you who missed those stimulating conversations, you’re in luck! Les is about to return with an all new show for the Discovery Channel.

The new show is called Beyond Survival, and it will begin airing on Friday, August 27th. This time out, Les will be venturing into the remote corners of the globe once again, but he’ll be living amongst the indigenous people there, and learning from them about how to survive in the harsh environments that they call home. Some of the places he’ll be visiting include Madagascar, the Kalahari Desert, and Papua New Guinea. Some of the things he’ll see and do in these places have never been witnessed by an outside before, which should make for interesting television.

  1. It's good to see Les is back. While Bear is certainly entertaining, much of what he does is more like anti-survival – "we have to get off this mountain so let's slide under a glacier!". Les provides a conservative approach which is less flashy, but seems more likely to keep me alive if I'm ever in a serious situation.

  2. Pretty much my assessment as well Andy. I enjoy both shows, but would never do some of the things Bear suggests. He is entertaining though.

  3. Bear is fun to watch, but I find that I am watching for the places he goes rather than the ideas he presents (for fairly obvious reasons). I love this idea for Les' show. Bear actually did this for a few episodes and I thought it was the best segment of the show.

  4. Yeah, I think this is a great concept too. Can't wait to see how it all plays out in the first few episodes.

Glad to see Les back! 🙂
