Most adventure travelers know hat Machu Picchu is an amazing destination that can be reached by train and on foot. The majority of those that make the hike follow the legendary Inca Trail to reach the mountaintop fortress. That trail is a fantastic trip of course, but it can also be crowded and overrun with hikers at times. There is an alternate route that you can take to Machu Picchu however that tends to be less busy, while offering even more spectacular views. This the Salkantay Trek and as you’ll see in this video, it is every bit as rewarding as the traditional Inca Trail. This short documentary of that hike will get your feet itching for an adventure. Just be sure to bring your adventure dog along for the trip.
