I don’t cover much in the world of surfing, but this video is well worth sharing. It captures pro surfer Garrett McNamara riding a 90 foot tall wave off the coast of Portugal. It is believed that this is a new record for the largest wave ever ridden, and the video helps to give us a true sense of the scale of the thing. Hint: It’s enormous.

Insane. Does Portugal's coast frequently see waves this size? How far from land was he when he caught this monster?
Portugal does see some big waves, but this one is not typical anywhere really.
I have no idea how far out he was when he caught it, but it couldn't have been too far off the coast. The thing is just massive though.
Talk about a rush. If you go down beneath something like that, do you even stand a chance of resurfacing?
Recently read the book – The Wave: In Pursuit of the Rogues. It was scary enough looking at pictures in the book but looking at the video is even more eye opening. Can't imagine it.
